“Taking Back ‘Truth’”
By Andrew Ryan Duckworth
There are those who evangelize
With horrid lies behind their eyes.
Greed is now where their heart should be
And hate is all they know
And out of what they most despise
They fail to recognize the cries
Of those who are in the most need.
To them, they will not go.
For them, the myths of years ago
Is what drives them to be so cold.
Horrors of Christianity
Cause progress to be slow.
Mankind must not, themselves, be sold.
These demons that would be so bold
To claim that ‘Truth’ we cannot see
Will let true colors show.
I do believe that you have invented a new rhyme scheme [aabc/aabc/eebc/eebc]. Congratulations, I suggest that you put a timestamp on a hardcopy and file it away for your biographer.
I notice that once again you have used your store of words wisely. You make your points boldly on this topical issue and support them admirably – all within the form and the fresh, novel sound scheme. Well done Andrew but as a contrarian I have to point out to you that originating this message makes you an evangelist also
Thank you very much! I’m very glad that you enjoy my work and that you comment as well! And I do see your point about the term ‘evangelist’ and perhaps I should have used a different word in the poem because the word does define someone who would be very much outspoken about their beliefs and that would include me as well. I suppose I was looking more at the modern use of ‘evangelist,’ at least in the United States, where when one thinks of the term ‘evangelist’ the mind is easily drawn to fundamentalist sects of Christianity. Again, I thank you very much for reading my work!
